The video “NOMADIC ARTIST IN RECOVERY”, by St.Petersburg-born and Berlin-based theatre-maker Ada Mukhina, confronts nomadic and sedentary lifestyles by observing their different dynamics and comparing the objects that accompany each choice of living.
Mixing memories of her own experiences as a nomadic artist and “how-to” videos illustrating her efforts to get accustomed to sedentary life in times of the pandemic, she shares her struggle to find out which way of life should be adopted in an ideal world.
Using humor as a coping strategy, she invites the viewer to question what is taken for granted and by doing so, leads to the conclusion that more than one role has to be inverted for us to find our ways through and our place in this changing world.
Ada Mukhina’s work focuses on politically/socially engaged, documentary and participatory performance. Her practices include directing, performing, curating, writing, teaching and researching.
She was, among other things, a founder of the Theatre project Vmeste, a Russian collaborative theatre group that produced multiple community-based projects in theaters, museums, educational and human rights organisations in 2012-2019.
